The Story

Radha Krishna Bhavan is Tooting’s specialist for Kerala and South Indian coastal cooking – a cuisine built around coconut, curry leaf and fresh spice grinding rather than the richer gravies of the north, and one that’s harder to find well done in London than mainstream Indian food. It’s long been one of the most consistently highly-rated restaurants on the entire High Street.

What To Order

A Kerala-style fish curry, simmered in a tangy coconut and tamarind gravy, is the dish most associated with the kitchen, alongside appam – lacy, bowl-shaped rice pancakes – and a full range of dosas for the vegetarian table. The room is simple and functional, in keeping with the strip’s general approach of spending the effort on the food rather than the decor.

Good To Know

A 4.7-star average from well over a thousand reviews makes it one of the highest-rated restaurants anywhere in Tooting, Sri Lankan or South Indian. Thalis – a full tray of small dishes served together – are a good way to sample several curries in one sitting without committing to a single main.
